The Grand Opening for the refuge occurred on June 3, 2006, and construction on the Wildlife Center started shortly thereafter.
The dedication ceremony for the new Wildlife Center at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge took place on March 29th, 2008. The theme for the dedication was "Nurture Your Sense of Wonder," and the photograph chosen to represent that theme is an award-winning image of a Pied-Billed Grebe and it's young by Ed Bustya.
