Panoramic Photography WorkshopThe three-day panoramic photography workshop teaches you how to make stunning panoramic images by digitally stitching together a series of photographs taken by a 35mm or medium format digital camera. We will work in the scenic Verde Valley, near the "ghost town" of Jerome or in the red rocks of Sedona, or later in the year at Steens Mountain above the Alvord desert in Eastern Oregon. You will learn how to properly set up the gear (your equipment or mine, see below) to take panoramic sequences. Then I will show you how to use software to stitch and combine all the images together. I will also show you how to use High Dynamic Range (HDR) to make more exciting panoramas. High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography is a new exciting technique for making more vibrant images. The method involves taking multiple exposures of a scene, then digitally combining the exposures and using only the best data in each exposure. It makes it possible to get great shots in difficult situations where there are extremes in bright light and darkness in shadows. It is especially good for bringing out the texture in billowing clouds. The technique works extremely well in red rock country where the dynamic, colorful scenery makes excellent subject material. Setting up your equipment to make panoramic images is a challenge. It requires a special panoramic jig for the tripod head that allows the camera to rotate around the nodal point of the lens, vertically and horizontally. I'll teach you how to setup and use your digital SLR camera, lens, and equipment for the best results. If you don't yet have the right gear, you can use my equipment, which will give you the opportunity to try the techniques before making a big investment. (I currently use a Canon 1D Mark III digital SLR and Canon 24-70mm zoom lens, Gitzo carbon-fiber tripods, and Really Right Stuff camera body plates and panoramic gear). In my one-on-one panoramic photography workshops, you will benefit from:
